There are many ways to make a difference in someone’s life. Sometimes, it begins simply by showing up.
This September and October, Identitywa, an agency of the Archdiocese of Perth, is seeking compassionate volunteers to become mentors in its new Journey Makers pilot program.
Journey Makers is a life skills and capacity-building program designed for young people aged 14–17 living with disability. The program will help participants build confidence, independence and meaningful connections as they prepare for important life transitions.
To bring the program to life, Identitywa is looking for volunteers who are passionate about inclusion and willing to encourage, support and walk alongside young people as peer mentors.
Volunteers will help facilitate group activities focused on:
- Building friendships and a sense of belonging
- Developing everyday life skills, including cooking and social activities
- Growing confidence and independence
- Supporting young people as they prepare for future milestones
No two mentors are the same. Whether you bring lived experience, professional skills or simply a caring heart, your time and encouragement can make a lasting impact.
As a volunteer, you’ll also have the opportunity to:
- Build meaningful community connections
- Share your experience while developing new skills
- Support young people to reach their potential
- Be part of an inclusive program guided by experienced practitioners
Identitywa is seeking people who:
- Are passionate about building inclusive communities
- Bring diverse experiences, gifts and abilities
- Can commit approximately 12 hours across five weekdays between 29 September and 10 October, plus three hours on a Saturday for program delivery and orientation
- Hold, or are willing to obtain, an NDIS Worker Screening Check
Volunteers will be supported throughout the program with training, mentoring and guidance from Identitywa’s Practice Lead Mentor.
If you feel called to share your time, encouragement and compassion with the next generation, this could be a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
