Mission Statement and Mandate

Personal Advocacy Service as an agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth has a Mandate – Signed – October 2018 to promote and implement the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities within the local communities.

I, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth, mandate the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth Personal Advocacy Service to assist the Archdiocese in fulfilling its responsibilities in furthering the Mission of the Church in the area of promoting the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities within the parishes of the Archdiocese.

MISSION

To develop supportive Catholic parish communities to ensure people with intellectual disabilities have a sense of belonging, make connections, have an opportunity to contribute and grow their spirituality.

COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT

The Committee of Management is appointed by me and is governed by the Constitution that I have endorsed and which provides its brief to oversee Personal Advocacy Service.

COORDINATOR

The Coordinator is appointed by me to manage the day to day affairs of Personal Advocacy Service in the manner more particularly set out in the Personal Advocacy Service Constitution.

PURPOSE

  • To raise awareness and promote that people with intellectual disabilities in parish communities have a right to express their spirituality through friendship and relationships, and contribute to the life of the church community;
  • Via small communities, foster a sense of belonging through friendships;
  • To support parish communities to welcome and integrate people with intellectual disability into the parish community life;
  • To be a resource for parish communities to support people with intellectual disabilities;
  • To develop a network of communities to:
  • promote the dignity and value of people with intellectual disabilities;
  • give strong and active witness in the Faith;
  • act as a bridge to participation and inclusion within their parish and the broader community.

TERM OF MANDATE

This Mandate is given for five years from the first day of October 2018.
