How we work
Personal Advocacy Service is an agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth reporting to the Archbishop of Perth – Timothy Costelloe SDB.
As part of the Archbishop’s mandate for our organisation, our governance structure includes:
Personal Advocacy Service acknowledges that safeguarding is a shared responsibility prioritising the care, protection and best interests of children and adults at risk. By providing a safe environment, actively identifying and managing risk, and complying with the Safeguarding policy, guidelines and legal obligations, we serve Jesus and uphold human dignity as the foundation of our faith. We aim to be a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place for all.
Personal Advocacy Service is committed to implementing the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards (NCSS). We annually undertake a self-assessment (Safeguarding Activities Assessment Tool – SAAT) to improve and monitor the implementation of the NCSS continuously.
You can find out more about the safeguarding program, guidelines, find helpful resources, and protective behaviour resources via the Archdiocese’s Safeguarding Program Office website.
Our Safeguarding Officers
Personal Advocacy Service has two dedicated Safeguarding officers who assist in creating a safe environment for all. They are the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns and support the implementation of the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.
Reporting Abuse
We have always been committed to quality, especially to Quality from the Heart!
In recent times when Quality is an expectation of all State and Federally funded services, Personal Advocacy Service has proudly demonstrated its commitment in all areas of its work.
Quality Assured
Personal Advocacy Service (PAS) participates in Quality Assurance processes as part of its commitment under the National Disability Advocacy Program. We have obtained the Disability Advocacy Standards Certification and National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) registration as required by the Department of Social Services (DSS).
As an organisation, we also participate in the Disability Services Commission (DSC) Disability Quality Management Framework to demonstrate this commitment. Several measures are used to demonstrate its commitment to both its friends with disability and its community volunteers.
Disability Services Standards
The DSC has to date used the nine standards to define what it expects organisations to achieve when assisting people with disabilities and their families. Personal Advocacy Service has demonstrated that it complies with these standards via DSC’s Independent Quality Management processes. The Executive Summary of the report from the independent evaluation is available here.
The new National Standards have just been released and compliance with these new standards will be an expectation by State (DSC) and Federal (DSS) funders.
Personal Advocacy Service is a Registered NDIS Service Provider under the category ‘Social and Community Participation’. Our SPRED – Special Religious Development – Program is covered by NDIS.
The full yearly NDIS program includes:
