Feeling Safe: A New Guide to Protective Behaviours

PAS-ProtectiveBehaviours-Guide

Personal Advocacy Service, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Perth’s Safeguarding Program Office and Identity WA, is excited to announce the release of a new resource: FEELING SAFE: An easy read guide on protective behaviours.

This guide is a valuable tool designed to help adults at risk understand the key principles of the Protective Behaviours Education Program. Written in an easy-to-read format, the guide can be used independently or with a support person, such as a carer, friend, or family member.

The History of Protective Behaviours

The guide is based on the Protective Behaviours Program, which was originally developed in the 1970s by Peg Flandreau West. The program was created to help children recognize when they don’t feel safe and empower them to take action. Since its introduction to Australia in 1985, the program has continued to be a trusted resource.

We are proud to have supported the development of this guide by providing insights on imagery, pictures, and colours to ensure they are easily understood by everyone.
