Advocate Georgie shares her friendship story with Tre

In May 2021, Father announced in church that our parish was starting its very own Personal Advocacy program.

At that time I did not know what it all entailed. After Mass I met with Father and he put me in touch with the PAS program coordinators. I met up with them and they explained exactly what this program was all about. I knew from that first meeting I was committed and that is what I would love to do voluntarily. I signed up immediately.

I had the opportunity to meet a really bright young man, Tre, and his beautiful family, Mum, Mercy, Dad, Chris, and his two brothers.

We took to each other from day one and Tre has been my friend ever since. I pick up Tre every second Tuesday. It’s a short drive to the church but we had the best laughs because I got Tre to direct me and we always used to go the wrong way and then find our way. Tre does not stop talking about his family, especially his brothers.

Tre also loves playing video games and I hear about all his new games. Tre has grown so much since I’ve met him and is not shy. He loves to dance and loves to sing and has a beautiful voice.

His main idol is Guy Sebastian. All the training has help me understand people with a disability and helps me with my job and how to interact. It has taught me that we are all the same; just some do things at a different pace than others . My husband Andre knows that a Tuesday is my night and he is 100% behind me.
